Maintain safe child spaces for all center based classrooms, educational centers and outdoor play areas. Perform general preventive maintenance and repair procedures to ensure the safety of environments, materials and activities. Prepare, repair and paint surfaces located in classrooms and educational centers. Follow up and respond to issues identified by the completion of Office of Head Start and Head Start of the Lehigh Valley Health and Safety Checklists. Regularly monitor classrooms and educational centers against environmental health and safety standards and regulations. Perform general repairs and preventive maintenance when necessary to outdoor play-spaces and playgrounds as identified. Respond quickly and efficiently to classroom reports of unsafe environments in order to make modifications to ensure the safety and well-being of children. Maintain accurate reports and pertinent statistics. Provide deliveries of classroom materials and supplies as needed. Work with site sponsors, classroom staff and supervisors, Facilities Management, licensing agencies and others regarding site issues, on-going maintenance and inspections.

High School Diploma or GED (required). Three years of environmental safety and/or general maintenance experience.   Spanish bi-lingual, bi-cultural preferred but not required. Lift and carry a minimum of 75 lbs in order to move equipment and materials. Ability to safely operate a variety of hand and power tools. Ability to stand, sit, reach, stoop as well as ascend and descend stairs. Skill in following safety practices and recognizing hazards. Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license, full time use of car, ability to operate agency owned vehicle. Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. Capacity to read and follow general directions and simple diagrams. Organize, maintain records and use basic technology. Commitment to the safety of children, families and staff. Ability to flex work hours to meet program needs.
